Today in history, March 6th 1990 the SR-71 Blackbird obliterates the transcontinental speed record. This was the aircraft’s final flight from Palmdale, CA to Washington D.C. where it would be retired in the Smithsonian.

Lt. Colonels Yielding and Vida departed from LA to DC, making the trip in an hour, four minutes traveling at 2,124 miles per hour. The aircraft departed at 430 AM and took an offshore refueling, then made it’s way to Dc, sending a sonic boom throughout southern California, this caused please to report sounds of explosions and or earthquakes from themselves and other residents.
